A good vacation for me is encouraging and helpful. I am able to come back and see things in a more positive light. Things just seem easier, people seem less annoying, and problems don’t seem as critical. I smile a lot—some say my face glows (probably the massive infusion of vitamin D from the sun). Nevertheless, a good rest is a good thing. Jesus recognized this. He had just sent out the 12 apostles with no food or money, just a walking stick and sandals. They were working from town to town, preaching, casting out demons, healing the sick, etc. King Herod had decapitated John the Baptist, and John’s disciples took his headless body and laid it in a tomb. The apostles were probably a little stressed. Jesus recognized that, “and He said to them, come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while” (Mark 6:31). Really? Rest? Nice! A vacation with Jesus, hmm… This is the condition of our souls, “Come to Me and you will find rest for your souls, (Matthew 11:28-29).
I love You God. I trust You God. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Thank You God.
